Patagonia Health Carries Customers Safely Across the ICD-10 Threshold

Cary, NC – October 30, 2015

Patagonia Health, an Electronic Health Records (EHR) software company located in Cary, NC, strategically and methodically mapped out a successful plan, which helped their customers successfully cross over from ICD-9 to ICD-10.
“ICD-10 was a huge change for everyone and we knew creating an easy crosswalk was crucial for the success of our customers. We wanted to make sure they had no disruption of not only billing and reimbursements, but more importantly patient care” stated Sonali Luniya, PhD, VP of Customer Experience, Patagonia Health. With that in mind, Patagonia Health prepared technical and functional modifications to their EHR software, conducted thorough and deliberate testing with both private and public payers, and offered complete training and built-in guidance for their customers.
A built-in crosswalk from ICD-9 to ICD-10 codes guides customers through the coding process. Dr. Peter Malmquist of Midway Family Practice Center in Anderson, SC commented that the “crosswalk feature has made it very easy for me to assist my staff with the new codes and the training webinars prior to the conversion helped us know what to expect” said Dr. Malmquist.
Since October 1st, Patagonia Health customers have been showing their gratitude and standing proud of their own successes through what could have been a very trying phase in Healthcare history. “We are arranging a celebration lunch for our staff for having successfully transitioned to ICD-10 without problems and we did not cut any appointments” reported Alisa Leonard, Director of Nursing, Cleveland County Health Department. Other customers, including Focus Behavioral Health Services, reported receiving payments within the first week of ICD-10 use.
Patagonia Health’s EHR integrated billing software also has a built-in data check function which scrubs all claims prior to being sent to payers. This continues to be a tremendous asset so that any claims using incorrect code formats are caught prior to submitting them to the payers, which drastically reduces the chance for denials.
Patagonia Health, experiencing a record growth year and earning a spot on the top 5% of the 2015 Inc. 5000 fastest growing companies, achieved an equally notable milestone with their successful implementation of the ICD-10 changeover.
