Patagonia Health Ready for New Medicare Beneficiary Identifiers

Medicare Beneficiary Identifiers are Changing

Medicare Identification Numbers for beneficiaries will be changing! Beginning April, 2018 Medicare will not be using the beneficiary Social Security Numbers as part of the identification numbers for medical claims. The new MBI (Medicare Beneficiary Identifiers) will be an 11 digit alpha-numeric ID. Medicare will be mailing new cards to the beneficiary addresses they have on file. Healthcare providers should notify the patients they should be getting a new card in the mail.

Patagonia Health is already prepared for this change. Patagonia Health’s billing features, eligibility verification, and claims processing will work using the new MBI, so there will be no required actions of its EHR users.
