Public Health Selects Patagonia Health for EHR Billing Solutions

App, cloud-based system scheduled for full deployment by February 2014

DURHAM,N.C.–On behalf of the Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH), the Durham County Board of Commissioners recently awarded a $652,136 contract for a new electronic health record (EHR) and billing system to Cary, N.C. based Patagonia Health.

Patagonia Health, which also provides innovative and comprehensive EHR billing software solutions nationally and to 1 in 5 local public health departments in North Carolina, was selected over several other software companies from across the country.

“Patagonia Health met the request for proposal (RFP) requirements and the company had a track record with other local health departments in North Carolina,” said Public Health Director Gayle Harris.“The defining moment for me was how our staff responded during the product demonstration.  Staff members were engaged and excited about the ease of navigation and the ability to customize screens to view needed information as they worked with their patients.”

DCoDPH’s new app and cloud-based software solutions will improve organizational efficiency and improve patient care, while achieving compliance to the federal EHR mandate. The new software includes the following benefits:

  • Increases efficiency by electronically connecting to multiple internal and external systems including laboratory systems, pharmacies, local hospital systems and Health Information Exchange (HIE).
  • Streamline billing and improve collections by reducing denials through an intelligent web-based revenue cycle system.
  • Improve decision making on allocating health resources by combining EHR data with county Geographical Information System (GIS) via Health Mapping app.
  • Aid decision making at management level via the Local Health Director dashboard app.
  • Enhance patient engagement with integrated patient portal and communicator app.

“Durham County has a history of leading and innovating solutions to improve public health,” said Patagonia Health CEO Ashok Mathur. “Patagonia Health is pleased to partner with the Durham County Department of Public Health to continue a legacy of innovation and developing cutting edge apps to meet the challenges of the evolving healthcare landscape.”

Work is now underway to review the department’s workflows and begin the first phase of staff training. The DCoDPH configurations and customizations are expected to fully “go live” in all areas of health department by February 2014.
