When selecting a new EHR, whether through a comprehensive RFP or direct research, take advantage of the process.

You are looking for a new EHR for a reason.

Over many years of responding to Requests for Proposals (RFP) for new Electronic Health Record software (EHR), we found all too often agencies remain focused on their current way of conducting business. Over of the numerous occasions of collaborating with our customers on system functionality, we learned it is rarely that cut and dry.

You won’t find a better EHR if you’re asking for the same thing you already have.

So dig deep and ask yourself and your staff these critical questions before you begin.

  1. Where do you want to be in 5 years?
  2. Is it important to have modern software capabilities that can scale with you?
  3. For multi-facility types under one rule, is it more important to have an all-in-one system so all facilities are on the same platform, or is a best-of-breed approach the key to their individual success?

Every county is different, as is every state, and it is no surprise health departments are all abiding by county rules.  These rules sometimes dictate the health department has to conduct an RFP before making costly purchases, and they always dictate state and federal reporting requirements.

There is a right EHR out there. But first you must identify your must-haves. Start at the top, break it down to the details and do your due diligence. And whatever you do, don’t forget to factor in support levels!
